This is a general statement about this week's discussion that arose from concepts that overlap with the subject matter that I am studying in New Media theories. One of the prevailing themes that continues to come up when we discuss how technology impacts society and the way that we interact with one another is the notion that information can be more easily shared. Also, the internet allows people to communicate in real time. Yet accessibility continues to be a major concern. Not only is it problematic that not everyone has access to such developments but what about the commodification of technology and what about government restriction? Considering Dothan's (2007) Signaling & Warranting Theory, which states that whether f2f or online, much of the human interaction consists of signals that occur outside of what individuals present via SNS or even directly, how then can we say that Cyberfeminisms actually provide a place/space of gender/sexual utopia. Does cyberfeminism truly promote pure egalitarian opportunities? Why or why not.
