Brophy and Buran both discuss the concept of a binary between the real world (our physical bodies) and the virtual world (the internet) from different perspective. For Buran, this duality was a foregone conclusion. She argued that on the internet, no one knows your race, gender, creed, ect. which liberated early CyberFeminists. They essentially created their own worlds within which to operate simply by being online. Brophy criticized this concept heavily, calling attention to the physical requirements to operate digital technologies as well as the ingrained and deeply-held socio-cultural background which guides each individual's online interactions.
